From August 23rd to 25th, 2024, I embarked on my first multi-day trekking adventure: the Fjallraven Bromo Discovery with the Outside team! Covering 31.5 kilometers over three days, the experience challenged me in ways I hadn't expected, yet it rewarded me with stunning views and unforgettable memories with my team.

Preparing for the Trek

Packing for a three-day, two-night trek wasn’t easy, especially as a first-timer. We had to balance essential items like food, a tent, and clothing for both hot days and cold nights, along with trekking gear and personal items. The goal was to pack light while ensuring we had everything we needed to stay comfortable.

Thankfully, working at Outside meant I had access to expert advice. I used the Exped Lightning 45 backpack, which was perfect for its lightweight design, internal and external pockets, and compression straps that helped keep the load manageable. I also opted for lightweight gear like the Snow Peak Titanium Cookset and cup, which saved weight without sacrificing functionality.

Day 1: Lava View Lodge to Lembah Loreng

Our journey began at Lava View Lodge, trekking toward our first campsite at Lembah Loreng, passing the Teletubbies Hill along the way. The first day was tough—we trekked over 13 kilometers across varying elevations and dusty trails around Mount Batok. My Keen Zionic shoes provided excellent traction, making the uneven terrain and dust manageable, especially for a first-timer like me.

The breathtaking scenery made every step worthwhile. The cool breeze and panoramic views were energizing, especially after a long hike. Upon reaching Lembah Loreng, we were greeted by rolling hills and the tranquility of nature at Bromo. We set up camp, cooked dinner together, played some songs by Hindia, and enjoyed a magical night of stargazing. Sharing stories around the campfire, with the crisp night air and a warm pot of Maggie, was a memory I’ll never forget.

Day 2: Lembah Loreng to Dalan Lawas

Day two took us to Dalan Lawas, with a refreshing stop at Simpang Keciri, where the free drinks from Toko Kopi TUKU were a refreshing treat after hours of trekking. The journey was physically demanding, with steep climbs and rugged terrain testing our endurance. Some of us developed blisters, and fatigue set in, but we were motivated to push through together.

By the time we reached Dalan Lawas, the cold had set in, but the warmth of the team’s camaraderie kept us going. We gathered around a campfire, grilled corn, and played games. The Fjallraven Abisko Endurance 4 tent did an amazing job keeping us insulated against the freezing temperatures, and I was thankful for a cozy night’s sleep amid such a cold environment.

Day 3: The Final Stretch Back to Lava View

The last day of the trek was no less challenging, but the views continued to captivate us. At times, the chilly winds made the trekking enjoyable, and the landscape reminded me of Switzerland with its green hills and scattered small cottages. As we passed through small villages, watching locals tend to their fields was heartwarming—it was a glimpse into a simpler, more grounded way of life.

By the end of the trek, a deep sense of accomplishment filled me. Despite the physical challenges, I was proud to have completed my first multi-day trek alongside a wonderful team. The Fjallraven Bromo Discovery has sparked a new love for trekking, and I’m already excited for my next adventure: the Fjallraven Classic in Jeju, Korea this October!
