Yana's First Time to Many More: Mt. Bromo Fjallraven Discovery 2024

HIKING BROMO FOR 3 DAYS AND 2 NIGHTS?!! I can’t believe I actually completed the hike! I’m not a hiker to begin with, but I love adventurous trips. I love traveling; I love being on a road trip. I love being anywhere and everywhere. Of course, the sound of hiking and camping in Mount Bromo thrills me a little.

On our first day, we had our proper, delicious breakfast at the Lava View Hotel. Then everyone is required to weigh their hiking backpack before the start of the hike. My backpack weighs 15 kg (that's like carrying 3 sacks of rice). After that, all of us gathered to get ready for the start of the hike. I was very excited to embark on the trail, as it was my first time hiking in another country. To be honest, it is not like what I’ve seen and watched on videos. It is a mixture of a lot of sweat, heat, and balancing during the trail. I am so glad I brought along my trekking pole (my lifesaver). We ended our first day by setting up our tent, making our own food, and spending time with friends and getting to know new friends. On our second day, we woke up early to clean up after ourselves and make our breakfast. Then we started our hike to the next camping location.

The second day hike was a little easier compared to day 1, as the trail has lesser elevations. The trail to the second campsite was definitely challenging, yet it was not as bad as the first day. Nevertheless, it was a good achievement for me because I believe in the power of small wins. On our final day, the day I’ve been looking forward to, as I cannot wait to get a proper shower and sleep. I kid you not, the last day was super challenging. The elevation was super steep. 

Carrying myself on the trail is already a hassle; can you imagine carrying a 15-kg bag along with me? I ALMOST DIED. Still and all, I managed to complete Fjällräven Discovery Bromo! I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude towards Fjällräven SEA and the incredible Indonesia Outside team for allowing me to be a part of this fruitful event. Will I ever do it again? YES ABSOLUTELY
